Finding Connection with Your Horse, One Quiet Moment at a Time. . .

I’ve learned that real connection with a horse doesn’t come from demanding more, but from listening more. When I let go of my expectations and just slow down, my horse always responds with honesty, sometimes in ways I didn’t expect!

I’ll admit, there have been days when I felt completely out of sync with my horse. I’ve watched trainers waltz in, work their magic, and have my horse eating out of their hand in five minutes flat. Meanwhile, I’m standing there wondering if I’m even qualified to own a houseplant, let alone a horse.

Some days, the gap between where I am and where I want to be as a rider feels huge. But then I go back to basics, like asking my young horse to stand quietly for grooming and respect my space. When she relaxes and lets out her breath, I remember that these small moments are real progress. I’m reminded that I am connecting, even if it doesn’t always look picture-perfect.

Every day, I try to be mindful of what energy I bring to my horse. She keeps me humble, honest, and, most importantly, laughing at myself.
